Rev. Mike Plant has taken up his appointment as the pastor of Honiton Evangelical Congregational Church and we welcome him to his new role.
After his time at university Mike entered ministerial training at the London Theological Seminary.
On graduating Mike became the minister of Cannon Park Congregational Church in Middlesbrough which he fulfilled for twenty one years. In this challenging inner city situation, Mike and his wife Margaret worked among deprived families and asylum seekers showing them in practical ways the love of the Lord Jesus. But it was more than their material needs that were met. The good news of the gospel and of God’s saving grace was always part of their rounded ministry.
Having passed the responsibility of church leadership on to others, Mike became the general secretary of the Evangelical Fellowship of Congregational Churches (EFCC), which post he held for twelve years.
This national role made extensive use of Mike’s gifts and skills in the support of local churches and ministers and the promotion of the Christian faith.
Mike has now returned to his passion of pastoring a local congregation. We are grateful to God that He has led Mike to Honiton where we are sure that he will serve the congregation positively and prove to be an asset to the community.
A service of Induction to officially welcome Mike and Margaret was held at the church on Saturday 22 October 2016 at 2.30 pm followed by a Fellowship Tea.
